The market value of hand made carpets vary as with any other form of art work, depending on the world economy as well as the supply and demand. In the recent past few years, the value of modern carpets in particular Persian carpets has increased at least two fold due to decline of carpet weaving in Iran.
In the case of old and antique carpets, the valuer needs not only to have an extensive awareness regarding carpet industry from all over the world, but also possess an up-to-date knowledge regarding the current value of particular carpets. It is sometimes quite challenging to evaluate a very rare carpet.
Not all the old or antique carpets are highly expensive and not all new ones low-priced. Due to this complexity it is vital to find an experienced dealer who is currently fully involved with the present market. However, it is necessary to obtain an up-to-date and accurate value for carpets every five to ten years in order to obtain a precise insurance cover for them. Some carpets are usually insured along with the rest of household items but depending on the type of policy if a carpet is beyond a certain value, it has to be mentioned separately.
